At Christmastime, Do not let opening presents be the focal point. Instead, Let it be opening YOUR HEART.

This Christmas, connect with your inner child. Ask yourself if you are happy. What kind of gift would you benefit from? Release yourself from your expectations. Do not judge your inner child severely. Stop directing your criticism inwardly and instead love yourself exactly as you are, because you are unique and have wonderful qualities.

It seems like the Christmas season start earlier with each year that passes.

We miss out on the richness of autumn by focusing on a winter holiday.

In Denmark Christmas season begins on the first Sunday of the Advent, when everyone decorates their homes, children receive advent gifts.

The countdown to 24th of December is done through advent calendars with one window to open each morning and candles that are burned one date at a time.

The Christmas spirit is visible with strings of bright strings of lights arching above major streets, specially decorated shop windows, Christmas markets and concerts.

Shopping centers are crowded and people are busily buying all of the ingredients for feasts and treats they will serve their guests, and search for gifts for everyone on the list.

It is easy to pick up the stress of others and to experience stress yourself. Even if the parties and dinners are fun all of the activity and the countdown to the big day can take a lot of energy out of you.

A quote on the wall of the yoga studio, Senses, where I teach regularly, has inspired me to reflect about the essence of Christmas.

“Christmas is not as much about opening our presents as opening our hearts.”

We already know that Christmas can be so much more than decorations, feasting and gifts.

The true Christmas spirit is about opening our hearts, and remembering the story of the birth of Jesus.

In the culture where I was raised as a child, Christmas is related to the Catholic religion but actually my understanding of the symbolism has developed over time and with my yoga practice, and now it means more to.

Traditionally, this is the time of year when we open our hearts and homes to our relatives, families – and also to strangers. This year, I am thinking of innocent people I will never know, who are dying every single day because of evil wars.

The time is now for us to open hearts and show our love and gratitude for our planet through better actions – such as karma yoga. Planet Earth is rapidly dying because of our greed, selfishness, and excessive lifestyles.

This is the time when we must open our hearts and learn to turn our love inward as well as much as possible.

When you start to love yourself, will you be able to love others and the entire universe.

Practice loving yourself unconditionally. Once you master this skill, then you be able to love everyone else unconditionally as well. And opening your heart inwardly and outwardly will give everyone the gift of love at Christmastime.

Peace
