28 Nov Autumn weekend cleansing diet – MUNG BEANS & RICE DIET
According to traditional Chinese medicine, autumn is the season associated with the lungs and large intestine.
It is the time of year when we should pay extra attention to these organs. I have realised that during the autumn I can easily get an infection in my respiratory system and my elimination system sometimes behaves strangely. I feel often like my bowel system is “unhappy”.
That why I have decided to try a Mung Beans and Rice mono diet, which is based on the recipe from Foods for Health & Healing, by Yogi Bhajan and kundalini yogi life style.
It is a good cleansing diet for the kidneys, colon, and organs of elimination, and the bowel system.
The Mung Beans and Rice diet gives a lot of nourishment and provides protein to the body.
I will do the diet for 3 days but the recommendation is to do it for up to 30 days.
What do we need?
(It is a good idea to do all of the shopping in advance, because when you are doing a detox, it is best to have as much time for relaxation and rest as possible)
Mung Beans and Rice weekend diet shopping list:
– mung beans (we will need about 1 cup)
– basmati rice (we will need about 1 cup)
– vegetables of your choice (carrots, celery, broccoli, etc…)
– 2 onions
– ginger root (we will need about 1/3 cup)
– garlic (about 8-10 cloves)
– turmeric in powder (Danish: gurkemeje) – 1 tsp.
– pepper – 1/2 tsp.
– garam masala in powder – 1 tsp.
– red chiles (dried or in powder) – 1 tsp
– sweet basil (in powder) – 1 tbsp.
– 2 bay leaves
– seeds of 5 cardamon
– vegetable oil or ghee
I am going to drink juices and eat also fruits + green tea, so it is necessary to buy those items as well.
Rinse the mung beans and rice. Add the mung beans to boiling water and cook until they begin to split. Add the rice and cook for another 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Now add the vegetables of your choice.
Heat the ghee/oil in a sauté pan and add the onions, garlic, and ginger and sauté until clear. Add the spices and cook 5 more minutes, stirring constantly. Add a little water if necessary. Add this to the cooked rice and beans. You can substitute vegetables as you like, as well as using Bragg Liquid Aminos, tamari, or soy sauce instead of salt. It also tastes great with yogurt!
